Morning departure by cab or overnight train to Jaisalmer — 6–7 hours through the arid landscape of Rajasthan that gradually gives way to the Thar Desert. Check into your fort-view hotel. In the evening, walk inside the living Jaisalmer Fort — one of the world's few fully inhabited medieval forts, home to 3,000 residents within its 12th-century yellow sandstone walls. The fort looks like it is made of gold in the evening light (earning it the name Sonar Quila — Golden Fort). Explore the narrow lanes, eat at a rooftop restaurant inside the fort, and watch the last light fade over the desert horizon.

Morning sightseeing in Jaisalmer: Patwon ki Haveli — a cluster of five exquisitely carved havelis (mansions) built between 1800–1860 by Guman Chand Patwa, considered the finest havelis in Rajasthan. Salim Singh ki Haveli with its unique peacock arch. Gadisar Lake — a man-made lake created in 1367 by Maharawal Gadisar, surrounded by temples and cenotaphs, perfect for a morning boat ride. In the afternoon, drive 40 km to the Sam Sand Dunes — the Thar Desert at its most dramatic. Mount your camel as the sun begins to sink and ride to the top of the tallest dune for the perfect desert sunset. Check into your luxury desert camp — Swiss tents with proper beds, attached bathrooms, and a central area for folk music, Rajasthani dance performances, and dinner under the stars.

Morning at the Khuri Sand Dunes — a quieter, more authentic desert experience 45 km from Jaisalmer. A desert jeep safari through the shifting sand landscape reveals the surprising life of the Thar — desert foxes, great Indian bustards, chinkara gazelles, and the occasional wolf. Return to Jaisalmer, then drive/train to Jodhpur (3–4 hours). Overnight in Jodhpur.

The final morning brings you to the magnificent Mehrangarh Fort — one of India's largest forts, standing 125 metres above the city on a rocky cliff.
