The 1.2 km pedestrian-only promenade lined with Victorian-era buildings, boutique shops, and restaurants is one of India's most charming walking streets. Begin with Jakhu Temple, dedicated to Lord Hanuman, perched at 2,455 m atop Jakhu Hill — the path to the temple winds through a forest populated by hundreds of (friendly but mischievous) monkeys. The temple houses a magnificent 108-foot Hanuman statue visible from across Shimla. Descend to The Ridge — a large open space with panoramic mountain views, perfect for photographs. See the neo-Gothic Christ Church (1857) — the second oldest church in North India. Stroll to Scandal Point (where the Maharaja of Patiala allegedly eloped with a British viceroy's daughter) and visit the Viceregal Lodge (now Indian Institute of Advanced Study), a beautiful Tudor-style building that once hosted the British Viceroy. End at Lakkar Bazaar for wooden souvenirs.

Hire horses for a scenic ride through pine forests to reach elevated viewpoints — the views of the Shimla valley from horseback are unforgettable.
